(a) It is a promise, that is, an agreement by which one binds oneselfunder obligation to another to do or omit something (Eccles. Idolatry, see Religion, Sins against. (b) According to the common opinion, it is lawful to intoxicate oneselffor a grave reason (see 2477 b), and hence also it is lawful tointoxicate another for a similar reason. Notealso that the virtue of obedience differs from the vow of obedience inthis, that the vow obliges to the external performance of a command,while the virtue includes also internal submission.
